Abstract
Gamification is the process of integrating elements of games into non-gaming environments in order to encourage learning and active involvement. Multiple scientific studies have demonstrated that the motivation and engagement of learners may be enhanced via gamification. The aim of this research is to examine scientific works on gamification of programming languages in higher education since 2018. This study takes into consideration possible challenges who learn programming languages in higher education that make gamification a useful approach, reviews the methods used to evaluate the progress of gamification, and examines the types of game mechanics used. The findings of this study will be useful for educators who intend to apply gamification methods to teach programming in higher education.
