What the recommender does
From your description of the manuscript, the platform returns 10 to 20 journals ranked by how well they match. The recommendation is advisory: it does not affect the official ranking of journals, universities, or authors, and it is not an endorsement by any editorial board.
How a recommendation is produced
- You describe the manuscript: title, abstract, keywords.
- Optionally you attach the full text — PDF, DOCX, or TXT.
- The platform shows the significant terms it found most often in that text; you remove the ones that do not belong, and only the set you confirm is used.
- You receive a list of journals, each showing why it was matched.
How the match score is calculated
-
Term overlap
How many concepts from your query occur in the journal's topical profile. This is the lexical half of the score: it compares words with words.
-
Semantic proximity
How close the manuscript's subject is to the journal's subject in meaning rather than in wording. The comparison runs through multilingual vector representations, so a query in Kazakh or Russian finds journals whose subject areas are described in English.
The final score is a weighted sum of these two values. Results show both sides of the calculation: the list of matched topics and the semantic proximity value. If the semantic model is unavailable, the recommendation falls back to term overlap alone — without an error and without losing results.
What happens to your manuscript
Where the text is processed In memory, on the platform's own servers
The uploaded file is not stored in the system and is not passed to third parties. The semantic model runs on our servers: neither the query nor the manuscript text leaves for an external service.
| What is uploaded | Limit |
|---|---|
| Manuscript file | 10 MB at most |
| 100 pages at most | |
| Extracted text | up to 200,000 characters |
| A keyword in the query | up to 200 characters |
| Scan with no text layer | not recognized |
What you can narrow the search by
- Open-access journals only
- No publication charge
- Publication charge below a threshold
- Language of publication
- Quartile
- Expected time to publication
- Plan S compliance
- Licence type
Narrowing is optional: with no constraints the recommendation runs across the whole catalogue of journals.
