How this score is calculated

It is built from checkable properties of the record itself: whether the article has a DOI, how many independent sources confirmed its data, whether the required fields are filled in, and how recent the latest confirmation is. Disagreement between sources and a missing identifier lower it. A value of 80 or above means the record was published without further checking; 60 to 79 means it is published at reduced confidence, with a manual check advisable. A record verified by an editor by hand is never pushed below 90 by a recalculation. This scores our data about the article, not the article itself.

Abstract

Atopic dermatitis is a chronic inflammatory skin disorder in which epidermal barrier dysfunction plays a leading role. Current evidence demonstrates that structural defects of the stratum corneum, alterations in the lipid matrix, reduced synthesis of differentiation proteins, and immune-inflammatory pathways contribute to persistent barrier impairment. This results in increased transepidermal water loss, enhanced allergen penetration, and microbial colonization. Restoration of the skin barrier is considered a key component of baseline therapy. Emollients are the main topical care agents providing hydration, lipid replacement, and reduction of symptom severity. This review summarizes current concepts of barrier dysfunction pathogenesis and presents evidence supporting the effectiveness of emollient therapy in treatment, flare prevention, and maintenance of remission.
