How this score is calculated

It is built from checkable properties of the record itself: whether the article has a DOI, how many independent sources confirmed its data, whether the required fields are filled in, and how recent the latest confirmation is. Disagreement between sources and a missing identifier lower it. A value of 80 or above means the record was published without further checking; 60 to 79 means it is published at reduced confidence, with a manual check advisable. A record verified by an editor by hand is never pushed below 90 by a recalculation. This scores our data about the article, not the article itself.

Abstract

This article examines selected penological and penal enforcement aspects related to the detention of convicted women under conditions of deprivation of liberty. In this context, the paper addresses issues concerning the implementation of United Nations international legal instruments relating to the legal status of convicted women, as well as the incorporation of these international standards into the penal enforcement legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the activities of the bodies and institutions responsible for the execution of custodial sentences. Within this framework, based on an analysis of empirical data, the article identifies key elements of the socio-typological characteristics of convicted women and examines their proportion within the penitentiary institutions of the penal enforcement system of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Particular attention is paid to the structure of female criminality, as well as to patterns of distribution depending on the degree of social danger posed by the criminal offences committed. Against the background of the identified socio-typological characteristics of convicted women, the article assesses the gender dimension of the Penal Enforcement Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan and concludes that it lacks adequate gender sensitivity, which does not comply with the recommendations of United Nations international standards on the treatment of female prisoners. The article further demonstrates the socio-criminological determinants leading women into places of deprivation of liberty and highlights the insufficient response of the penal enforcement legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the incarceration of women who have committed criminal offences, particularly with regard to taking into account their specific needs, psychophysiological characteristics, and the necessity of creating conditions conducive to the successful resocialisation of convicted women.
