How this score is calculated

It is built from checkable properties of the record itself: whether the article has a DOI, how many independent sources confirmed its data, whether the required fields are filled in, and how recent the latest confirmation is. Disagreement between sources and a missing identifier lower it. A value of 80 or above means the record was published without further checking; 60 to 79 means it is published at reduced confidence, with a manual check advisable. A record verified by an editor by hand is never pushed below 90 by a recalculation. This scores our data about the article, not the article itself.

Abstract

Coffee, which justifiably holds the distinction of being the second most consumed beverage in the world after water, has long attracted the attention of researchers in the field of health sciences. It contains a wide range of bioactive compounds, including alkaloids such as caffeine and trigonelline, phenolic acids, diterpenes such as cafestol, as well as lignans and flavonoids. Cafestol, one of the bioactive components of coffee, has been shown to enhance glucose uptake in human muscle cells and stimulate glucose-induced insulin secretion. Individuals with type 2 diabetes develop resistance to insulin, the hormone responsible for facilitating the conversion of dietary glucose into energy. Two compounds present in coffee, cafestol and caffeic acid, have been associated with the prevention of type 2 diabetes and protective effects against disease development. Recent studies indicate that cafestol may contribute to protection against diabetes. Researchers suggest that these findings could support the development of new pharmacological approaches aimed at preventing and treating the disease. Over time, findings from larger studies with longer follow-up periods have led to significant shifts in scientific perspectives regarding the effects of coffee consumption on human health.
