How this score is calculated

It is built from checkable properties of the record itself: whether the article has a DOI, how many independent sources confirmed its data, whether the required fields are filled in, and how recent the latest confirmation is. Disagreement between sources and a missing identifier lower it. A value of 80 or above means the record was published without further checking; 60 to 79 means it is published at reduced confidence, with a manual check advisable. A record verified by an editor by hand is never pushed below 90 by a recalculation. This scores our data about the article, not the article itself.

Abstract

Viruses play a significant role in the overall etiology of infectious diseases. Systematic monitoring of respiratory viruses helps identify new, unique strains of epidemiological and clinical significance. This article presents the results of monitoring the prevalence of influenza viruses and other acute respiratory viral infections (excluding COVID-19) in Kazakhstan from 2019 to 2025 using polymerase chain reaction and serological studies. The study revealed a variable prevalence of the A/H1N1pdm09 and A/H3N2 subtypes among influenza viruses across epidemic seasons. Among other respiratory viruses, hRSv and hRv were the most frequently detected. During the pandemic and in 2020–2021, an unprecedented decline in influenza virus circulation was observed. Serum analysis revealed a predominance of antibodies to influenza A viruses (A/H1N1pdm09 and A/H3N2, in roughly equal amounts) throughout the study period, while antibodies to influenza B viruses were less common. No antibodies to the A/H3N2 influenza virus were detected in serum samples during 2022–2023. Studying the predominant respiratory viruses in Kazakhstan will help adjust treatment protocols and vaccination schedules against respiratory infections, as well as identify the most relevant strains as potential components of seasonal vaccines.
