How this score is calculated

It is built from checkable properties of the record itself: whether the article has a DOI, how many independent sources confirmed its data, whether the required fields are filled in, and how recent the latest confirmation is. Disagreement between sources and a missing identifier lower it. A value of 80 or above means the record was published without further checking; 60 to 79 means it is published at reduced confidence, with a manual check advisable. A record verified by an editor by hand is never pushed below 90 by a recalculation. This scores our data about the article, not the article itself.

Abstract

Tobacco mosaic virus (TMV) and its host plant Nicotiana benthamiana represent one of the most studied and fundamental pathosystems in phytovirology. This review article synthesizes current knowledge about the multilevel interactions between this virus and the plant. We consider the molecular architecture of the TMV virion, the genetic features of Nicotiana benthamiana that determine its hypersusceptibility, in particular the mutation in the Rdr1 gene, and the detailed infection cycle - from cell penetration to systemic dissemination through the phloem. Particular attention is paid to pathogenesis, including symptomatology, cytopathological changes and profound reorganization of host metabolism. The article analyzes the molecular "arms race": the main mechanism of antiviral plant defense - RNA silencing - and viral countermeasures in the form of suppressor proteins. The paradoxical role of the KPILP protein, which, being a homologue of protective proteins, promotes viral infection, is separately considered. Finally, the biotechnological potential of this system as a platform for "molecular farming" and functional genomics is discussed.
