How this score is calculated

It is built from checkable properties of the record itself: whether the article has a DOI, how many independent sources confirmed its data, whether the required fields are filled in, and how recent the latest confirmation is. Disagreement between sources and a missing identifier lower it. A value of 80 or above means the record was published without further checking; 60 to 79 means it is published at reduced confidence, with a manual check advisable. A record verified by an editor by hand is never pushed below 90 by a recalculation. This scores our data about the article, not the article itself.

Abstract

The reintroduction of the kulan (Equus hemionus kulan) to the Ile-Balkhash State Nature Reserve aims to restore its population within its historical range in Kazakhstan. The study is motivated by the species' near extinction and the need for effective conservation strategies. The goal is to develop a biological basis for capturing kulans from the Altyn-Emel National Park and releasing them into the reserve. The researchers used population monitoring, capturing, and safe transport methodologies. The results show that the current population in Altyn-Emel has reached its ecological limit, justifying the relocation of up to 60 kulans annually. Preparations for reintroduction include corral improvements, transportation logistics, and rules for release. Despite risks from predators and pathogens, careful monitoring should ensure a sustainable new population in Southern Balkhash, contributing to regional biodiversity restoration. The conclusion emphasizes that reintroduction is critical to kulan conservation and maintaining biodiversity in Kazakhstan.
