How this score is calculated

It is built from checkable properties of the record itself: whether the article has a DOI, how many independent sources confirmed its data, whether the required fields are filled in, and how recent the latest confirmation is. Disagreement between sources and a missing identifier lower it. A value of 80 or above means the record was published without further checking; 60 to 79 means it is published at reduced confidence, with a manual check advisable. A record verified by an editor by hand is never pushed below 90 by a recalculation. This scores our data about the article, not the article itself.

Abstract

Converting wastewater sludge into vermicompost offers a sustainable approach to managing waste from treatment facilities. Recently, interest has increased in using the organic fraction of sewage sludge as a substrate for biological recycling technologies. These processes produce high-quality organic fertilisers such as vermicompost. This review summarises current knowledge on the physico-chemical and microbiological properties of activated sludge, its potential phytotoxicity, and pre-treatment options. It also examines the most effective earthworm species for sludge processing. Key parameters that govern the effectiveness of vermicomposting are examined, including optimal temperature ranges, moisture levels, C:N balance, and pH control. The review also highlights the environmental and agronomic benefits of the final product. Case studies from various countries are reviewed, highlighting national regulatory frameworks, policy constraints, and practical barriers to implementation. The article concludes that vermicomposting of sewage sludge is a viable strategy for developing countries to reduce landfill burden and enhance soil fertility.
