Abstract This chapter explores the relationship between voter (de)mobilization and electoral integrity. While voter mobilization is essential for increasing turnout and ensuring fair representation, selective strategies that target specific groups or demobilize opposition can undermine electoral integrity. Using the calculus of voting framework, the chapter analyzes how political actors manipulate the perceived costs and benefits of voting to prioritize partisan gains over equitable participation. It highlights how voter suppression laws, clientelism, and electoral violence are employed to manipulate turnout, threatening political equality and fairness. By comparing voter (de)mobilization practices in both old and new democracies, the chapter reveals how these strategies can either strengthen or erode the integrity of electoral systems, depending on the broader sociopolitical environment. The conclusion emphasizes the need to address these manipulative tactics to protect the democratic process and safeguard electoral integrity, ensuring more just and fair representation for all.
