This article examines the works of the eminent representative of Kazakh literature of the 19th century, the improvisational poet Murat Monkeuly. Previously, Murat Monkeuly's works were mainly viewed by older generation literary scholars as representative of the "Zarzaman" trend. His verses, yearning for freedom, were not adequately popularized. Therefore, this research aims to interpret and introduce the poet's works to the literary community from a scholarly perspective. Murat Monkeuly is a representative of the 19th century, a pioneer, a poet-guide. The article discusses issues related to the study of Murat Monkeuly's creativity, as well as research on poetic reflections and verses from chronological, comparative-historical, and hermeneutic perspectives. Through these methods, the author's personal views on time and space, history, the world, and human nature, as well as methods of modeling the real world and the inner world of characters, are examined. The poet's work is intended to draw attention to the negative impact of Russian occupation in the 19th century on Kazakh identity. Alongside this, the poems and works of the author reveal the socio-political, cultural nature of the complex problems of the history and society of the Kazakh people. The underlying theme of Murat Monkeuly's multi-layered texts is the idea of national identity. The scientific and practical value of the research lies in the fact that in Kazakh literary studies, some views that emerged during the Soviet period are being reassessed from the perspective of the modern independent country, as well as contributing to the improvement of the methodological and theoretical aspects in the field of domestic literary studies.
