Summary Low salinity water flooding (LSWF) and Smart water flooding (SWF) flooding are methods used as Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) techniques; both consist of injecting water with changes in the composition, The higher viscosity of microemulsions and expansion of the oil volume affect the recovery factor, by LSWF/SWF is a posibility to improve the microemulsions, hence the recovery, The change in the ions has a relation with the microemulsion generation, as for each brine no homogeneity in the result in each one of the samples, asphaltene content and CII have a direct relation as increases in both lead to more W/O emulsions. Following this conclusion the higher the asphaltene content the most likely it is that the increase in the viscosity of the brine dominates the performance, while in the other direction the dominant would be the oil volume expansion.
