This study reviews the wireless power transfer (WPT) principles and focuses on the inductive wireless power transfer technique. The concept behind the WPT is thoroughly studied and proper simulations concerning its mechanism of operation have been conducted. Significant attention was given to the WPT using overhead high voltage power line (HVPL). The studied concept implies that the energy is extracted from the HVPL using energy harvesting device and that it is transferred to the consuming device via the magnetically coupled transmitting and receiving coils. Simulations have demonstrated that the energy transferring efficiency and transmission stability are dependent on the frequency at which the power is transferred. While the energy transferring efficiency and the frequency are directly proportional, transmission stability and the frequency reveal inverse proportionality. Another simulation was conducted to investigate the relation between the distance and efficiency. The obtained plots revealed that as the distance increases, the voltage of the overhead line declines drastically.
