Plants of the genus Ziziphora of the family Lamiaceae, characterized by a high content of essential oil and are used in ethno medicine in many countries for the treatment of cardiovascular and gastrointestinal diseases (1). The aim of this research was to develop a method for quantitative determination of pulegone in the essential oil of Ziziphora bungeana Juz. using Kazakh and European Pharmacopoeias approaches and GC/MS methods, for inclusion in the monograph. Macroscopic and microscopic standardization of the authentic plant samples were included for correct identification and authentication of the raw materials. Histochemical reactions to the contents of essential oils, as well as qualitative determination of pulegone using TLC were carried out. In the present work, the regulated rates for the following quality indicators were determined based on European Pharmacopoeia: quantitative content of essential raw materials in the plant (2) should be no less than 0.8 ml/kg, the content of the pulegone in the essential oil – no less than 40% (3), loss on drying – not more than 13% (4), total ash – not more than 15% (5), ash insoluble in hydrochloric acid – not more than 4% (6), foreign matter – no more than 10%, organic impurities – not more than 1%, mineral impurities – less than 1%. (7), microbial contamination – should comply with pharmacopoeia requirements (8). The content of heavy metals and radionuclides were determined according to the requirements of the state. These results have been proposed for the inclusion in the State Pharmacopoeia of Kazakhstan monograph for this herbal raw material.
