This article analyzes and characterizes the chemical composition of forage crops, taking into account the possibility of their further growth in the Atyrau region. The territory of Atyrau region is located in desert and semi-desert areas with extremely unfavorable natural and climatic conditions. A comparative analysis of three feed crops, such as hay, silage and haylage, was carried out for the content of proteins, fats, carbohydrates, ash, carotene, calcium and phosphorus. In protein is the most nutritious hay, fats – also hay, the carbohydrates haylage, hay ash, the carotene silos, the calcium – hay and phosphorus silos. Thus, the most nutritious forage crop is hay. But with a lack of vitamin A, which is rich in carotene, it is necessary to give farm animals silage. If there is a lack of phosphorus in animals, it is necessary to feed them with silage, and to compensate for the lack of calcium by feeding hay.
