Having Distributed Generators (DG), which are driven by renewable energy sources (RES) such as solar, wind and hydro, and biomass arises social, economic, and environmental issues and changes the conventional power systems to be more eco-friendly. However high penetration of DGs into low voltage (LV) distribution networks can cause overvoltage and thermal overloading problems and negatively affect the protection systems. Here the critical role of the term hosting capacity (HC) comes. HC is the capacity that indicates how much RES generation can be integrated into power networks, it is essential to evaluate HC and figure out ways to increase it. There are many HC enhancement techniques, one of them is using electrical energy storage systems (ESS) in power systems. This paper discusses the impacts of ESSs on the IEEE-13 bus system. The paper provides a description of the case when a modern optimization method was applied for HC enhancement using energy storages to minimize overvoltage in LV power systems.
