This review paper brings together current approaches to collecting and integrating both clinical and instrumental data in children with cerebral palsy (CP), emphasizing their use in developing and refining adaptive rehabilitation controllers. The review discusses several complementary data‑acquisition methods, including electromyography (EMG), force sensing, instrumented insoles, and inertial measurement units (IMU). Particular attention is given to how these multimodal data streams can inform the design and fine‑tuning of control systems such as the P.GEAR controller, enhancing transparency, safety, and personalization in pediatric rehabilitation. The paper outlines current limitations, highlights emerging technological solutions, and explores future perspectives in evidence‑based, data‑driven rehabilitation engineering. In addition, a CAD‑based prototype of a modular hip brace is presented as an example of how sensor‑integrated mechanical design can bridge research concepts with practical clinical applications.
