This article explores the role of digital competencies in the transformation of higher education within the sixth information revolution, driven by artificial intelligence, cyber-physical systems, and platform technologies. The study draws on strategic university documents, international research, and labour market data to assess how graduate training corresponds to the requirements of the digital economy and to identify directions for institutional change. Special attention is paid to the competency gap between employers’ expectations and graduates’ actual skills. The results indicate that digital competencies are essential for sustainable socio-economic development, supporting adaptability, innovation, and the growth of knowledge-based industries. Universities thus emerge as strategic agents of economic transformation rather than mere providers of education. Four major clusters of higher education’s digital transformation are highlighted: digital literacy, digital intelligence, personalised learning, and civic digital identity.
