The article examines the historical prerequisites of event-related practices in the territory of Kazakhstan and the development of event tourism during the period of independence. With regard to earlier historical periods, the concept of “event tourism” is not applied retrospectively in a direct sense; fairs, diplomatic receptions, religious ceremonies, traditional festivals, and mass events are analyzed as historical prerequisites and prototypes of contemporary forms of event tourism. The study employs historical-genetic, comparative-historical, typological, and systems analysis methods. The chronological scope of the research extends from the 3rd century BCE to 2024. As a result of the study, an author-developed periodization of the historical development of event-related practices and event tourism in Kazakhstan is proposed, their main forms are systematized, and the continuity of their functions related to social integration, cultural exchange, economic interaction, and the formation of territorial image is identified. The scientific novelty of the study lies in providing a comprehensive periodization of the development of event-related practices and event tourism in Kazakhstan and their typological systematization, taking into account the transformation of their main forms and functions across different historical periods.
