The article presents the results of a study aimed at providing a scientific rationale for, developing, and experimentally validating an approach to organizing the training process of cross-country skiers aged 14-16 during the recovery period of the annual training cycle. The relevance of the study is determined by the need to identify effective means of maintaining the level of physical fitness of young athletes during the recovery phase, which is traditionally characterized by a reduction in the volume and intensity of training loads. Such a reduction may result in a decline in functional capacity and physical performance. This issue is of particular importance under contemporary multi-peak training systems, which require athletes to achieve a high level of sports performance both during the summer competitive period, including roller-ski competitions, and at the major winter competitions of the season. The developed approach is based on the principle of eliminating a period of passive rest from the structure of the annual training cycle. The authors proposed the structure, content, and organizational and methodological characteristics of training sessions during the recovery period, aimed at maintaining the functional state of the body, preserving the level of special physical fitness, and ensuring a smoother transition to subsequent stages of training. The methodology involved the use of appropriately dosed aerobic and speed-strength training loads, as well as general and specific physical training means, taking into account the age-related characteristics of the athletes.
