The article describes the initial stage of a pedagogical experiment to form a professional picture of the world of university students in conditions of cross-border relations. A sample of the experiment is described: 82 students (bachelor’s, master’s, PhD’s level) of the NCJSC “S. Seifullin Kazakh Agrotechnical Research University” included in international educational relations. At the stating stage, the initial diagnosis of the level of formation of the components of the professional worldview in the experimental and control groups was carried out. The results indicate that the groups’ baseline indicators are statistically comparable (p > 0.05), confirming appropriate sample formation. Analysis of the ascertaining assessment data shows that, overall, the level of development of the components of the professional picture of the world among students studying in a cross-border context can be characterized as medium in both groups. The authors conclude that targeted pedagogical efforts that take the international context into account are necessary to develop in students a system of professional knowledge, values, and attitudes that ensures successful adaptation to the global professional environment.
