Introduction. The rational use of natural resources while ensuring industrial and environmental safety is a strategic priority for the Republic of Kazakhstan, particularly in regions where mining activities coexist with nuclear power facilities. Aim of the Work: This study aims to improve industrial and environmental safety through comprehensive monitoring of the territories adjacent to the planned Balkhash Nuclear Power Plant (NPP). Materials and Methods. The study analyzes approaches to defining exclusion and observation zones around nuclear power plants based on the recommendations of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Geomechanical conditions of the Akbakai ore field, located near the planned Balkhash NPP, were assessed, and the influence of natural and anthropogenic factors on geological stability and environmental safety was investigated. International experience, including lessons learned from the Chernobyl and Fukushima nuclear accidents and the Semipalatinsk nuclear test site, was also considered. Results. The geomechanical and environmental conditions of the territories surrounding the Balkhash Nuclear Power Plant and the Akbakai ore field were assessed. The effects of natural and anthropogenic factors on geological stability and environmental safety were analyzed. The requirements for establishing exclusion and monitoring zones were reviewed in accordance with IAEA standards and the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Discussion. The study demonstrated the need to balance nuclear power development and mineral resource exploitation while ensuring safety. The findings confirmed the importance of environmental monitoring for long - term risk assessment and sustainable resource management. Conclusion. Comprehensive monitoring of geological and environmental conditions is essential for ensuring industrial and environmental safety in the Balkhash NPP region. The proposed approach supports environmental risk reduction and sustainable natural resource development. Suggestions for practical application. The integrated geodynamic monitoring and geoinformation approach developed for the Akbakai ore field can be applied to other mining regions with nuclear power facilities to improve industrial and environmental safety.
