The recent proliferation of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) technology among institutions within the education sector has opened doors to personalize learning processes beyond imagination while also fueling daunting ethics issues pertaining to academic integrity, algorithm biases, transparency, and equal opportunities. This research project aims to explore the diverse dimensions and challenges arising from the adoption and use of GenAI technology, including the use of ChatGPT, within learning institutions while using a final review of 25 peer-reviewed articles to explore and demonstrate how different learning institutions, frameworks, and mechanisms address these diverse challenges arising from GenAI technology adoptions and use. Findings from the research clearly show that despite 94 % of top institutions within the learning sector having guidelines to use GenAI technology among faculty members, a daunting deficit still exists within various learning sectors pertaining to privacy, biases within GenAI technology, and the digital divide within learning institutions. This research work argues that to effectively integrate GenAI within learning institutions, collective stakeholders must come into play to ensure that GenAI technology does not undermine academic integrity within the learning sector.
