Relevance: The condition of the oral mucosa (OM) changes in various pathological processes, including the erosive-ulcerative form of lichen planus (LP). This study compares cytological parameters during photodynamic therapy (PDT) of LC, allowing evaluation of therapy dynamics, monitoring treatment effectiveness, and identifying early mucosal changes. The study’s relevance stems from the limited number of publications with similar data. The study aimed to evaluate the dynamics of cytological parameters of the oral mucosa in patients with erosive-ulcerative form of lichen planus during treatment using photodynamic therapy. Materials and Methods: The study included 25 patients aged 30 to 80 years, both sexes, with erosive and ulcerative lichen planus (LP). The patients were divided into two groups based on treatment regimens: a study group receiving PDT (n = 14) and a control group receiving traditional treatments (n = 11). The study material consisted of smears from the surfaces of affected areas of the pulmonary lesions in pulmonary leukemia. The smears were prepared and examined under a microscope in the teaching laboratory of the Histology Department of the S.D. Asfendiyarov Kazakh National Medical University. Results: The structural features of the epithelium of the cerebral cortex determine the rules for collecting material for cytological analysis and selecting other diagnostic methods. During the study, intact cells of the stratified squamous epithelium, mainly the superficial layer, and single neutrophilic leukocytes per field of view were observed in the control group of patients without oral diseases. Cytological and histological examinations of the specimens from patients with leukoplakia revealed hyperkeratosis, parakeratosis, and acanthosis. Cytological examination of patients with LP revealed hyperkeratosis, but no acanthosis. Conclusion: The use of PDT in patients with erosive-ulcerative keratoses leads to positive changes in the cytological parameters of the erythematosus, including an improvement in the cellular composition of the epithelium and a reduction in signs of keratinization. The obtained data confirm the effectiveness of PDT and can be used to monitor treatment and optimize care for patients with LP.
