One of the key aspects of the traditional culture of the peoples of Kazakhstan is the settlement dwelling complexes – kystau. Kazakh winter dwellings, constructed from various natural materials such as stone, adobe, wood, and reed, are found in different regions. To gain a deeper understanding of sedentism among Kazakhs in the northern regions, archaeological work was conducted in the Burabay district of the Akmola region. The wintering sites in this area are rich in surface material. The selected research site, the Tazhygul Valley, with its unique landscape and high concentration of archaeological sites, revealed structures of seven Kazakh winter settlements, two of which were studied by the research team. The results illustrate how Kazakh clans adapted to harsh conditions while preserving their traditional way of life. The collected materials enhance our understanding of the economic and cultural development of the Kazakh people in the northern regions and underscore the importance of further research in this unique area.
