The author analyzed the information of cartographic and documentary sources of the 17th–18th centuries about Mount Ityk. According to the statements of the 18th century scientist F.I. Strallenberg on this mountain there was a pyramid with images, the origin of which Strallenberg associated with the military campaigns of Emir Timur. The existence of this artifact was disputed and intended to be verified by G.F. Miller, but did not carry out the expedition. In the 20th century, Kazakh scientists identified Mount Ityk with one of the peaks of Ulytau, and information about the images on this mountain was considered as the first mention of the discovery by K.I. Satpaev inscriptions of Timur. The author shows the inconsistency of this conclusion with the information presented in historical sources and substantiates the hypothesis about the location of Mount Ityk among the mountains of the western part of the Kokshetau Upland in the Aiyrtau district of the North Kazakhstan region of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
