In this research, authors conducted the validation of a recently developed domestic black-oil reservoir simulator named “RSSS-BO” by numerically modelling the waterflooding model of one of the regions of Kazakhstan field, with a subsequent comparative analysis of the results of the simulator with widely used petroleum engineering software ECLIPSE 100 and tNavigator. The methodology for preparing the unified conditions for all three software for making the comparison possible to be provided has played a big part in the research. The chosen approach based on numerical modeling required the methods that could process the big data and produce clear results for the comparative analysis with the use of the Normalized Mean Absolute Error (NMAE), which has proven to be insightful and practical. This method has the potential for broader applications, including history matching and sensitivity analysis, thereby demonstrating its flexibility. The main objective of the research is to verify that the new in-house reservoir simulator is ready for the implementation of waterflooding modelling on the real industry tasks has been successfully achieved. The close alignment of RSSS-BO results with those of world leading simulators ECLIPSE 100 and tNavigator supports the conclusion that the new tool is accurate and industrially applicable.
