Concrete-filled steel tube (CFST) has, over the past decades, become one of the key directions in the development of composite materials that combine the advantages of steel and concrete. This paper examines the structural features and working principles of CFST columns. The main types of cross-sections are presented. Based on the provisions of SP RoK EN 1994-1-1, a criterion of deformation compatibility is formulated, according to which the yield strain of steel must be lower than the strain of concrete at its peak stress. Calculated strain values for various steel grades and concrete classes are provided, along with recommendations for their appropriate combinations for CFST columns. In addition, examples of CFST applications in high-rise buildings and arch bridges are discussed, including structures built in the People’s Republic of China, demonstrating the high efficiency and prospects of these elements in contemporary construction. An overview of the most notable structures, such as Taipei 101 and the “Third” Bridge in Pingnan County, is presented. The review reflects the current state of research and practical implementation of CFST in construction.
