Objective: To assess the years of potential life lost (YPLL) among women in Kazakhstan who died from breast cancer from 2009 to 2018.Methods. This study analyzed all cases of death from breast cancer using data from the Ministry of Health of Kazakhstan. YPLL was calculated based on an expected life expectancy of 75 years. Linear regression and multivariate models were applied to analyze the dynamics; statistical significance was set at p<0.05.Results. During the 2009–2018 period, 12,958 women died from breast cancer in Kazakhstan, resulting in a total loss of 18,357 life-years. The highest mortality rates were observed in the 50–54 and 55–59 age groups, with the greatest YPLL losses occurring among women aged 40–49. The overall mortality rate declined from 16.5 to 12.0 per 100,000 population. The average age of deceased women showed an upward trend, reaching 61.6 years. YPLL decreased by 33.6% over the decade, suggesting a positive impact of screening and early diagnostic programsConclusion. The decline in mortality and YPLL among women reflects positive changes in the healthcare system. However, the high losses among working-age women underscore the need for expanded preventive measures and improved access to medical care, especially in regions with limited screening availability. Keywords: breast cancer, years of potential life lost, burden, Kazakhstan, mortality.
