This research work was aimed at forming students’ natural-scientific knowledge and skills about biological processes in the teaching of biology in the school curriculum and improving their research abilities in the scientific direction of biology. Following the goal, the importance of organizing research work based on the methods of mandarin cultivation in the conditions of the school laboratory was outlined. Based on the conducted research work, the influence of organized biological experiments on the methods of growing tangerines in students of the experimental class on the success of students in mastering the discipline, as well as the formation of research skills, was determined. In addition to thematic education within the framework of the 7th-grade program for students, the relevance of the simultaneous acquisition of practical skills through extracurricular laboratory work was analyzed. It was shown that the consolidation of the acquired theoretical knowledge with laboratory work provides students with the formation of a high interest in the study of biology, recognition, knowledge, research, and application of educational activities. As in the system established in traditional education, the student is formed not only as a listener but also as an active, inquisitive, mature person in the learning process, striving for self-knowledge. Undoubtedly, the effective use of laboratory work in teaching biology is aimed at the correct formation of students’ views on the field of science, that is, research skills. The article showed the effectiveness of the formation of research knowledge in students in teaching biology.
