The article discusses the organization of field practice for the study of the urban environment on the example of the city of Aktobe. The study was conducted on the basis of the practice of third-year students of the educational program "Geography" of Aktobe Regional University named after K. Zhubanov, aimed at assessing the state and forecasting the development of the city. Attention is focused on the goals and objectives of the practice, including differentiating issues of studying infrastructure features, identifying problems and analyzing opportunities to improve the quality of life of the local population. The article analyzes methodological approaches and educational strategies aimed at developing students' skills in formulating forecasts of urban development. The methodology of differentiation of the urban environment met two research needs at once: the absence of intra-urban statistics and an integrated approach to the study of the urban environment. Field research in the urban environment plays a crucial role in understanding and analyzing complex urban systems. They allow you not only to collect data, but also to gain direct experience of working with urban reality. For this purpose, 8 excursions were organized in two weeks. Students mastered argumentation skills by observing and analyzing examples, and then applying these skills in practice. Such results are useful for teaching scenario thinking, as observing and analyzing examples contributes to a deeper understanding and development of students' reflective skills.
