Automated systems are considered that can improve traffic order and enable adaptive traffic light timing by optimizing the speed trajectories of vehicles crossing a sequence of intersections. Specifically, we investigate the impact of corridor topology (e.g., green wave duration, phase shifts) on the expected time savings from optimized trajectories. This research direction is particularly important, as vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) and vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) technologies allow autonomous vehicles to reduce fuel consumption, especially on urban roads. Previous research has addressed the problem of optimizing speed trajectories in traffic corridors and has shown potential fuel-saving benefits. However, past studies have primarily focused on individual intersections and often limited their findings to specific case studies. The main contribution of this work is to address congestion optimization for vehicles and various corridor characteristics in urban environments using the capabilities of V2V and V2I systems.
