we present design and evaluation of a wireless power transfer (WPT) system with a small size of $\mathbf{2 5} \boldsymbol{\times} \mathbf{2 5} \mathrm{mm}^{\mathbf{2}}$ aimed at application in implantable medical devices. The initial step in the design of the WPT entails the development of a compact single-band defected ground structure, in this case patterned square defects, based resonator. Then two identical resonators are coupled at an optimal separation distance of 26mm to form the WPT system. The prototyped WPT achieves an efficiency of $\mathbf{6 6 . 4 \%}$ at the design frequency of $\mathbf{4 3 3 ~ M H z}$. The WPT’s data transmission capabilities are evaluated based on bit-error-rate (BER) using universal software radio peripheral configured through LabVIEW software. Specifically, BER is measured at varying separation distances between the resonators, reaching value of 0.026 at 26mm.
