Increased intracranial pressure (ICP) after traumatic brain injury can lead to death of patients. This work aimed to evaluate the impact of barbiturate coma therapy (BCT) on intractable intracranial hypertension patients. We conducted a statistical analysis of studies published up to May 2023. The model showed a positive effect of BCT during treatment., the ICP in the experimental group of patients was 11.29 mmHg lower (on average) than in the control group (mean difference with 95% confidence interval is −11.29 [−16.19., −6.39],$\mathrm{p}-\text{value} < 0.00001$). The model also showed a positive effect of BCT on the patient's neurological condition (MD with a 95% CI is 0.73 [0.37., 1.10],$\mathrm{p}-\text{value} < 0.0001$). BCT significantly reduces intracranial pressure and improves the patient's neurological condition. Although our results are statistically significant, they are based on limited data from four clinical trials. Future studies may evaluate the possible side effects of BCT.
