The personal material interest of working people in the results of their labor at all stages of the development of the socialist economy has been and continues to be a powerful stimulus to the growth and improvement of social production, to a rise in labor productivity. At the time of the transition to the New Economic Policy, V. I. Lenin was the first to stress the decisive significance of material interest for the development of socialist forms of economy and the victory of socialism in our country. "Personal interest raises production," Lenin pointed out. "Without personal interest nothing will come of it; you must know how to get a person interested," he wrote to V. A. Avanesov.
