The problem of leadership in education is considered. Systematized scientific and \ntheoretical provisions that reveal the psychological and pedagogical foundations of leadership. The \nanalysis of scientific and theoretical studies of the concept of «leader» and the specifics of leadership in \nthe education system in the works of Russian, Kazakh and foreign scientists is presented. On its basis, \na comparison of the positions of a leader and a manager, their similarities and differences was carried \nout. The integration of leadership skills with the peculiarities of the organization of pedagogical activity \nhas been carried out. Taking into account the existing practical proposals of specialists in the formation \nof leadership and communication skills in various types of professional activities, recommendations \nhave been developed for the development of teacher leadership qualities through building a leadership \ndevelopment trajectory.
