The purpose of the study: the study of the influence of spatial and temporal variability of environmental factors in the arid steppe of the Altai Krai on the reaction of soft spring wheat plants. Research methods. The primary information was processed using correlation, regression, and cluster analysis. The methods of analysis and synthesis were used in the ranking of yields by РGR and administrative regions, as well as the compilation of the yield matrix. Research results. The actual data on the frequency of years (22 years) with different levels of yield of soft spring wheat in the physico-geographical and administrative regions of the arid steppe subzone of the Altai Krai were obtained. Using mathematical processing of wheat yield data, a time and space yield matrix has been constructed, which makes it possible to predict the sustainability of agricultural fields and the studied territory. Conclusions. 1. The results of a study of the reaction of soft spring wheat to spatial variability of habitat conditions in the arid steppe of the Altai Krai from 2000 to 2021 are presented. 2. Using mathematical statistics, a zonal change in the yield of soft spring wheat has been established in the physico-geographical regions (PGR) of the arid steppe. Taking into account the ranking of the wheat yield index (7 ranks are allocated, starting with a yield of 6 kg/ ha, 6-9, etc. to more than 21 kg/ha), the frequency of years with different levels of yield of soft spring wheat according to FGR is determined. The frequency of years with different levels of yield of soft spring wheat in the administrative regions of the arid steppe is shown, the values of which are ranked into seven groups in the same way as in the case of the FGR. We found out the annual yield level in five administrative districts located in different parts of the subzone and having weather characteristics that allow us to explain the reasons for the differences in yields within the year. Using the compiled wheat yield matrix, patterns of changes in its value over time and space were revealed depending on the limiting environmental factors inherent in the agro-landscapes of the arid steppe. 3. The results of the study of spatial and temporal variability of wheat yield, as a crop prevailing in the structure of acreage in the steppe zone, can be used in the management of agricultural territories at the level of an agricultural enterprise and a municipal district in forecasting and planning the production of agricultural products and raw materials.
