The relevance of this research stems from the need to improve solid domestic waste transport systems in the context of rapid urbanisation and the increasing volumes of waste generated in multi-storey residential buildings. The use of modern automated transport systems makes it possible to improve the efficiency of waste management, reduce operating costs and minimise the negative impact on the environment. The study aims to develop mathematical and simulation models of a vertical pneumatic tube conveyor for transporting solid domestic waste, as well as to assess the adequacy of the developed model and the operational efficiency of the proposed system. The methodological basis of the study comprised analytical, statistical, structural-functional and comparative methods, as well as methods of mathematical modelling and computer-based numerical experimentation. Simulation modelling was carried out using the licensed ANSYS software package. As a result of the study, a mathematical model of the operation of a vertical pneumatic tube conveyor was developed, enabling the description of waste transport processes whilst taking into account the system’s design and operational parameters. Based on the mathematical model, a simulation model was created to analyse the distribution of airflow velocities, pressure and waste transport modes within the transport channel. A comparison of the results of the mathematical modelling with the data from the numerical experiment confirmed the adequacy of the developed model; the maximum discrepancy between the calculated and experimental values does not exceed 10 per cent. The results obtained demonstrate the potential for applying the developed model to the design and optimisation of automated systems for the conveyance of solid domestic waste in multi-storey residential buildings. The practical significance of the research lies in the application of the proposed approach to the development of modern engineering systems for waste management, which ensure improved reliability, energy efficiency and environmental safety of urban municipal infrastructure.
