The article deals with the patterns of forming hydrogeological and engineering-geological conditions in Central Kazakhstan based on the analysis of the geological and lithological structure, tectonic features, and groundwater regime of a number of areas. It has been established that the hydrogeological structure of the region is multi-layered and is determined by a combination of pore waters of the Quaternary alluvial deposits, pore-fracture waters of weathering crusts, and fissure waters of the Paleozoic rocks associated with tectonic faults and intrusive contacts. Pronounced seasonal dynamics of groundwater levels associated with the infiltration of snowmelt and floodwaters, as well as significant spatial variability of rock water abundance, have been demonstrated. A dependence of engineering-geological conditions on the type of aquifer system has been revealed. It is manifested in the development of flooding, waterlogging, reduced soil bearing capacity, and complications in underground construction in fault zones. A comparative analysis of the areas has been carried out that allowed establishing the structural and hydrogeological zoning of the region and identifying the main engineering risks associated with its development.
