Microstrip wearable antennas are increasingly becoming part of the Internet of Things (IoT) world. The current manuscript provides a thorough analysis of microstrip antennas’ applications, materials, and manufacturing processes. The manuscript primarily focuses on the positive attributes of microstrip antennas’ manufacturing processes, which include their lightweight structure and ease of processing, especially concerning communication protocol applications used by IoT networks. The manuscript also includes detailed analysis of microstrip antennas’ materials used to construct textile antennas and an overview of major microstrip antennas’ manufacturing processes, which include embroidery, screen printing, bonding, and the laminate/assembly method. The review also discusses body-centric effects, including the influence of human-body proximity on antenna characteristics, resonant-frequency detuning, and specific absorption rate (SAR), with reference to internationally accepted FCC and ICNIRP exposure limits.
