The article reveals the philosophical discourse on the phenomenon of education based on the understanding of the problem of education in the works of: - representatives of the classical philosophy of rationalism (Plato, Kant, Hegel, etc.), who had a significant influence on the development of the foundations of the humanistic theory of modern education; - a representative of the French Enlightenment of the 18th century, J.-J. Rousseau with his humanistic concept of general education; - representatives of non-classical philosophy - the philosophy of life (the concept of redefining education by F. Nietzsche); In the philosophical discourse on education in the history of philosophy, the following were formulated: the idea of developing the general and individual principles in man, the principle of the search for truth, the principle of conformity with culture, the principle of "inner education", the principle of morality; the principle of developing freedom of spirit; humanistic and neo-humanistic theories of education. The authors believe that the crisis of modern education is part of the civilizational crisis of culture and education, and that the crisis of education, both global and national, occurs in three main directions: a crisis in the spiritual sphere as a loss of value orientation, leading to a gap between education and culture; a crisis of competence of modern specialists, leading to a lag in the ability of a person to cope with changes in the world around him; a crisis of the subject matter of education, its goals and attitudes, expressed in the discrepancy between the content, forms and methods of teaching and the urgent and strict requirements of the postindustrial era caused by new technologies. Consequently, the development of ideas of the philosophy of education - outside the framework of the cultural context is impossible, since the main problem lies in the harmonization of two models of education - technocratic and humanitarian. In the technogenic civilization and in the information society, the role of information resources and information technologies that transmit cultural and spiritual values is sharply increasing. At the same time, the role of the education system in this socio-cultural process is rapidly becoming more complex, which means that the sphere of interests of the philosophy of education should be expanded as much as possible, covering in modern society all channels capable of transmitting to new generations spiritual and cultural values, social and spiritual experience accumulated by previous generations.
