The article presents directions for improving diamond drill bits designed for drilling in hard abrasive rocks. The first direction involves the development of multilayer tools in which impregnated diamond layers are separated by soft, non-diamond interlayers of the same configuration. Additionally, ring-shaped bits have been developed with diamond-bearing layers placed on the concave surface of the matrix. This design enables the use of a weakened rock zone beneath the working elements, enhancing rock-breaking efficiency. The second direction focuses on modifying the diamond-retaining matrix by adding nanopowder and micropowder (010%) to the composite. The application of spark plasma sintering technology at temperature and pressure promotes the formation of a fine-grained, dense structure with improved interfacial bonding, uniform phase distribution, reduced surface roughness (down to ), and lattice densification of the phase. Experimental results confirm that the introduction of additives enables targeted control of the structure and increases the wear resistance of the tool. The developed and patented bit designs demonstrated a 1015% increase in drilling performance when tested in hard rock conditions. The proposed solutions aim to extend the tools service life and improve the overall efficiency of rock destruction during drilling.
