In this study, a nanofibrous wound dressing was developed for the treatment of second-degree burn wounds. The design, production, and characterization of the material were carried out. The first layer of developed nanofibrous material consists of polyacrylic acid (PAA) based nanofibers with superabsorbent properties, which were expected to absorb wound exudate and keep the wounded area moist. In the production of the second layer in contact with the wound, polycaprolactone (PCL) polymer was used due to its flexibility, high strength, and hydrophobic structure. In this layer, protein-based egg white (EW) was preferred as a wound healing agent. In the study, the polymer solution properties were determined. Afterwards, nanofiber surface production was carried out by optimizing the electrospinning process parameters. It was determined that EW concentration has an important effect on the solution conductivity, viscosity, and fiber morphology. The nanofibers were characterized morphologically, chemically, and thermally. Furthermore, the release performance of the active substance from the produced nanofibers was determined by the UV-vis method. In addition, the water vapor permeability analysis was performed on the bilayer nanofiber surfaces. Finally, the in-vitro cytotoxicity assay of the produced wound dressing was performed before proceeding to in-vivo applications. In the last stage of the study, the in-vivo analysis of the nanofibrous surfaces was performed on rats, and the healing performance of the material on second-degree burn wounds was evaluated histopathologically. As a result, it was determined that the nanofiber composite wound dressing had the potential to accelerate the healing of second-degree burn wounds.
